How pricing works

No figures on this page, because the number depends on your basement. Here is what moves it, and when you get it.

  • What decides the price

Pit depth and size, whether the slab has to be cut, the length and route of the discharge line, the pump's power, the battery size, and how reachable the drain line is for a valve.

    • Cutting the slab for a valve or a new pit costs more than a pump swap

    • A long discharge run costs more than a short one

  • What the estimate includes, and what it doesn't

The written price covers labor, the pump or valve, fittings, the check valve, a sealed lid and a permit where your town asks for one. It doesn't cover panel or circuit work, patching beyond the pit, flooring, drywall or drying out.

    • Electrical work goes to a licensed electrician of your choice

    • We list anything we can't see yet on the quote

  • What happens at the visit

A plumber walks the basement, photographs the pit and the drain line, and explains your options. If there's a trip fee, it's stated on the phone and credited to the job if you go ahead.

  • After hours

Yes, nights cost more. Calls between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m., on weekends and on holidays carry an after-hours charge, and the dispatcher tells you what it is before the truck leaves.

  • When you get the number

In writing before work starts, by text or email. An install gets one price. A storm-night call is billed by the hour, with the rate stated on the phone, and the permanent fix gets its own written price the next day.

Short answers about money

Do you give a price on the phone?

A range for a pump swap, if you tell us the pump and the pit. A valve or a new pit needs a walk-through first.

Does a bigger pump cost more to run?

Usually, but a bigger pump isn't always the answer. We size it to the inflow we measure, not to the biggest one on the shelf.

Will you charge to look?

We say on the phone whether there's a trip fee and whether it comes off the job. The terms go on the quote.

What does the warranty cover?

Terms, limits and exclusions come with the written quote. The pump maker's own warranty is separate.
